South India Festival Camp
Kerala holds a rich cultural heritage in the form of temples, traditional art and dance dramas. Hundred of years ago, Kerala was a cluster of little agrarian hamlets. Each under the benign protection of a village head and a dynastic god or goddess or even a group of them. It was a time when the simple rustic mind attributed human qualities to the otherwise awesome gods, and believe that they come down to the earth to accept offering and join in the festivities of men.
Social life in those days evolved around temples. Festivities and special ritual marked every social event astronomical or natural phenomenon. And every ritual was an invocation or a propitiation of one of the numerous gods of the land.
And based on the festivities, these events were categorized into four – pooram, vela, utsavam and thalappoli. All of them equally colorful, vibrant and magical. Venues for the artistic expressions of the people. Showcases of centuries of cultural wealth.
